Ballet Classes

Evolution Dance Center offers one of the most complete ballet programs in the San Diego area — from a first fun class for a two-year-old ballerina all the way through a Pre-Professional Program for dancers training for a career in ballet.

Vaganova Method Training

Our program is built on the Vaganova Method, the classical technique behind some of the world’s finest ballet dancers. Strong ballet technique is the foundation for excellence in nearly every dance form, which is why ballet is part of every student’s training.

A Dedicated Ballet Facility

• State-of-the-art studio floor designed specifically for pointe work
• Training pathway from creative movement through Pre-Professional level
• Faculty and alumni connections to Pacific Northwest Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, Ballet Austin, and Joffrey Ballet

Lyrical & Contemporary Dance

Lyrical dance blends ballet, modern, and jazz technique into a style that connects the dancer to the emotion of the music, building fluid, expressive movement. We recommend pairing lyrical with ballet training to strengthen technique.

Why Dancers Love Lyrical:

• Builds musicality and emotional expression
• Complements ballet and contemporary technique
• Popular style seen widely on TV and in film

Hip Hop Classes

Born in New York in the 1970s, hip hop has grown into a family of styles — breaking, popping, locking, jazz funk, and lyrical hip hop — seen everywhere from music videos to So You Think You Can Dance. It’s accessible to dancers of every age and background.

What Hip Hop Builds:

• Strength and agility
• The latest moves, choreographed to age-appropriate music
• A high-energy outlet for dancers of all styles, from ballerinas to break dancers

Jazz Classes

Jazz has been evolving since the early 1900s — from the jitterbug to the Charleston to today’s fast, intricate combinations. It’s a challenging, high-energy style that rewards technique and precision.

Why Dancers Choose Jazz:

• Strong technical foundation and correct body alignment
• New, exciting combinations every class
• A pathway to master classes, Broadway auditions, and professional careers

Tap Classes

Tap dance blends Irish dance, English clog dancing, and African dance into one rhythmic style. Since the Golden Age of Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly, tap has only grown in popularity — and it’s one of the best styles to start young.

Why Start Tap Early:

• Builds rhythm and musicality from an early age
• Classical technique paired with contemporary sound
• A lifelong rhythmic challenge for dancers of any age
